In the Community

Thompson Creek is proudly part of the mid-Atlantic community. We don't just work here – we live here. And we are thrilled to be able to give back.

Johns Hopkins Toy Drive

For the second year in a row, our toy drive in honor of Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital was a HUGE success! We collected boxes and boxes of toys - and raised over $250 to buy even more toys! Johns Hopkins relies on generous donations to make hospital stays a little better for children and their families. The generosity of our employees, friends, families and customers was incredible and is going to go a long way towards making these kids feel so much better.

Bridgeway Community Cupboard

We had the profound privilege of donating 343 non-perishable food items and over $450 in cash for daily living necessities to the Bridgeway Community Cupboard in Columbia, MD for their annual Thanksgiving food drive and in honor and ongoing support of our own Reggie Odom. Spearheaded by some of Thompson Creek's amazing employees - Gloria L. McDowell-Lewis, Finesse A. Archie-Jordan, Tori M. Cowley, Dale McQuillen, Donna M. Parkinson and Brian Quick, donations came pouring in from vendors, customers and employees.

A key committee member, Brian Quick, said "The great thing about working with the church was that not only were we helping a cherished entity one of our own in a time of need but the church is very organized. The church had specific items they hand out every year to families on the Monday before Thanksgiving so the needy families can cook their own meal on Thanksgiving Day. They had a time line for collections, goals and a committee to collect and distribute the food baskets. It was a unanimous decision to choose the church as the recipient for our employees generosity."

We look forward to continuing to give this holiday season, and for years to come.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for HumanityWhen a community supports you, it’s only fitting to return the favor. Thompson Creek is a proud contributor to the Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, created to engage individuals and communities in the good work of eliminating poverty housing and lift families out of poverty through homeownership. We were the top corporate sponsor in 2008, and also proudly serve on the organization’s Board of Directors and Development committee. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

Race for the Cure with Thompson Creek

This year, Thompson Creek raised over $40,000 for the 2011 Susan G. Komen Maryland Race for the Cure, solidifying the #2 overall fundraiser position in the Maryland Team Challenge and the #1 leading fundraiser spot among like-sized company teams. Additionally, two of our executives, George Schaub and Brian Wuest, were the overall #3 and #4 individual fundraisers, respectively.

In the past 3 years, we raised nearly $100,000 for Komen. This year our 84-person team had been aggressively fund-raising for only one month, and was proud to be able to contribute so significantly, while remaining ever-aware that no amount is too small. 2012 plans are already underway, with even more aggressive goals.

Thompson Creek on ABC’s Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition

Exteme Makeover: Home Edition

In our continued effort to give back to the community, Thompson Creek recently helped a family in need by participating in ABC’s Washington, DC edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition! Thompson Creek donated its clog-free gutter system and countless hours of hard work to help a local couple and their three sons. The Tripps, out of Hyattsville, Maryland, have helped get local kids off the streets and involved in fun and safe activities. It was truly an honor for us to help a family in need who has done so much, themselves, for our local community!

Thompson Creek on HGTV’s Curb Appeal

HGTV's Curb Appeal

Thompson Creek recently partnered with HGTV’s show Curb Appeal and helped a local Virginia family give their home a facelift. Along with several other updates to their home’s exterior, we were able to help the Hamilton’s increase their curb appeal by adding a beautiful new bay window!
