Lee and Tricia had a new door installed by Thompson Creek Window Company in their Fairfax, VA, home. Thompson Creek installed a new entry door to replace the old wood door, which had rotting trim, was drafty and not energy efficient. They were thrilled with their choice: "Thompson Creek was perfect. They kept me informed. It's a quality product at a fair price. Our salesman was awesome. Your front door is an important element in the curb appeal your home conveys. Door style, material, color, windows/side lites, and quality all lend to the architectural style and look of your home.
But beyond aesthetics, your entry door needs to function properly and efficiently. If your door has any gaps and lets in drafts, you’ll pay much more than you should this summer to keep your home cool. For example, a mere 1/8" gap around your door causes the same energy loss as drilling a 5½" hole through it. It’s something you simply can’t ignore. That’s why it’s important to choose doors that deliver air-tight comfort as well as beauty, security and value.
A custom-fit entry door is the easiest, most cost-effective way to dramatically increase your home’s curb appeal without going through the hassle and expense of major renovations. Thompson Creek Window Company offers the strongest, most energy efficient doors in the industry. They are custom-crafted to your specifications. They keep energy in – and unwanted drafts, noise and contaminants out. The same insulating technology that keeps the cold air out in winter also blocks smog and toxic fumes from vehicles outside or in your garage all year long.
Whether you want bold or classic, modern or vintage, with glass or without – Thompson Creek offers thousands of options to create the perfect door for your home and get the unique look you want. Choose from steel and fiberglass entry doors, aluminum storm doors, vinyl French doors and sliding patio doors. And like all our products, our doors are backed by our transferable double lifetime guarantee.

The entry door to your home is a focal point for the front of your house. Unfortunately, front doors see a lot of wear and tear from heavy use, sun, rain and temperature changes. An old entry door can send your energy bills skyrocketing.
In climate regions like Maryland, Virginia & Washington DC, your front door needs to help ward off cold winter conditions If just one door to your home is letting in a draft, you’re paying much more than you should in order to heat or cool your entire house. Even a fraction of an inch can create a costly (not to mention uncomfortable) draft as air seeps in and escapes out around all sides of the door—not just along the bottom.
Should you try to repair your entry door or replace it? Older doors are often made of wood. Over time, the elements will cause it to eventually crack, warp and peel. You could try repainting, caulking or other means of repair, but it’s not the most cost-effective solution, even in the short term. An energy efficient door will make your home more comfortable.
Exterior doors on the market today use the latest technology to help insulate your home, keep the elements out, and come in a variety of materials, colors and decorative options. And most doors are sold pre-hung, with the door already hung in the frame, a tight threshold and weather stripping. Everything is designed to work together to create a very energy efficient solution.
A new entry door is the easiest, most cost-effective way to dramatically increase your Maryland, DC, or Northern Virginia home’s curb appeal without going through the hassle and expense of major renovations.

If your entry or patio door is made from wood, both the door and the door frame require regular maintenance including painting every three to five years. Wood doors expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, resulting in gaps and drafts and leading to higher energy costs.
When you install a door made from fiberglass, steel or vinyl, you don’t experience these issues. Your door and door frame won’t warp, and you will experience little to no expansion or contraction – making the door more energy efficient. And fiberglass, steel and vinyl doors require no maintenance.
No matter what material they’re made from, builder grade doors tend to be much more susceptible to the effects of the elements. Over time, you’ll see the effects from the sun’s UV rays, fading, cracking and eroding the door and door frame. These lower quality doors are also less energy efficient than higher-quality doors made of fiberglass, steel or vinyl.

Thompson Creek installed a new sliding patio door, and entry doors in Lynn’s Sterling, VA home. The new doors qualified for the tax credit, and helped to make Lynn’s Virginia home more energy efficient.
When asked where she was most satisfied, Lynn replied “I was happy with all aspects of my experience with Thompson Creek, from the initial in-home consultation to the final product. The doors are very high quality and the installers were neat, clean, and very professional. I had talked to several other companies and gotten estimates prior to contacting Thompson Creek. In one case the price was close to Thompson Creek's but the product was not anywhere near the quality. The other company sent rude and pushy sales people with an estimate twice as high as Thompson Creek for an inferior product. I will use Thompson Creek for any window or door installation I need in the future and highly recommend them to anyone.”
Lynn finished by saying the reason that she chose Thompson Creek was “Reputation, the price and product I was shown on the initial consultation, and the perfect balance your company has achieved of answering questions and demonstrating a product without being pushy.”

She said she chose Thompson Creek “because they were so great. They were warm and sincere and seemed to know what they were doing. They came up with ideas that I liked. They didn't fall short in any way, shape, or form.”

Your front door is an important element in the curb appeal your home conveys. Door style, material, color, windows/side lites, and quality all lend to the architectural style and look of your home.
But beyond aesthetics, your entry door needs to function properly and efficiently. If your door has any gaps and lets in drafts, you’re paying much more than you should to heat and cool your home. For example, a mere 1/8” gap around your door causes the same energy loss as drilling a 5½” hole through it.
Thompson Creek offers the strongest, most energy-efficient doors in the industry. They are custom-crafted to your specifications. They keep energy in – and unwanted drafts, noise and contaminants out. The same insulating technology that keeps the cold air out in winter also blocks smog and toxic fumes from vehicles outside or in your garage.
Whether you want bold or classic, modern or vintage, with glass or without – Thompson Creek offers thousands of options to create the perfect door for your home and get the unique look you want. Choose from steel and fiberglass entry doors, aluminum storm doors and vinyl French and sliding patio doors. Replacement windows can add significant value to your home just by improving energy efficiency. According to Energy Information Administration, they estimate that as much as one third of the average home’s heat loss occurs through windows and doors.
When trying to decide if you need to replace your windows, you need to consider when your home was built and does it still have the original windows. You also need to evaluate the condition of your windows – do they show signs of wear, rot, warp, have difficulty opening or have cranks that no longer work. And if you have single pane windows, this could be one of the biggest reasons to replace them. Single pane windows are extremely energy inefficient, so upgrading to double pane windows will lessen chilly winter drafts, condensation, and heat loss during the winter months. During the heat of summer, you’ll notice your home is much cooler. You will significantly reduce outside noise coming in through your windows. And you’ll dramatically reduce your energy bills.
Having a more energy efficient home will also increase its resale value. Remodeling magazine’s “Cost vs. Value Report” says that “vinyl window replacements resulted in national recovery rates of 81%. Replacement windows are a truly solid investment…”
When choosing a replacement window company, it’s important to look for windows that are eligible for the tax credit under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These windows will make your house more energy efficient, and you can claim a tax credit of up to $1,500 for 2010 if you have new windows installed by December 31, 2010. See tax advisor for details.

Wildred E. from Fairfax, VA, was looking to replace her two picture windows and a sliding glass patio door. Although she received various estimates, a friend recommended Thompson Creek. She met with them and was sold on the quality of the products and professionalism of the employees.
Wildred told us, “The overall experience was very professional and I would come back to them again.” In fact, she was so pleased with the whole process that she’s now looking to replace her front entry door and side door with Thompson Creek doors.

If just one door to your home is letting in a draft, you’re paying much more than you should in order to heat or cool your entire house. Even a fraction of an inch can create a costly (not to mention uncomfortable) draft as air seeps in and escapes out around all sides of the door—not just along the bottom.
For example, a mere 1/8” gap around your door causes the same energy loss as drilling a 5½” hole through it. It’s something you simply can’t ignore. That’s why it’s important to choose doors that deliver air-tight comfort as well as beauty, security and value.
