Earlier this month, Rick Wuest, president of Thompson Creek Window Company, appeared on "Around the Home" on WJLA-TV in Washington DC.  He spoke to host Doug Eberhart about the importance of building a window that's made to last.  Thompson Creek windows are maintenance free, energy efficient and add to the value of the home.  He also talked about the benefit of working with a local company - Thompson Creek, with their factory in Landover, MD, and administrative offices in Lanham, MD, designs a window that's made to accomodate the weather conditions in the mid-Atlantic.

In addition to free tours of the factory, entertainment, food and drinks, and fun for the kids, Thomspon Creek held hourly drawings for exciting prizes.

The Caceda family from Montgomery Village, Maryland, was the proud winner of an 8 GB iPod Touch. They came to the Open House interested in possibly replacing the windows in their home in Montgomery County. Old windows can be hard to clean, difficult to open and not energy efficient. New vinyl replacement windows are virtually maintenance free, and do not require painting or other time consuming maintenance. New windows can help improve the Caceda home's energy efficiency.

The March 2011 issue of Washingtonian Magazine listed Thompson Creek Window Company as one of their reader favorites for window installation in the category Window and Doors.  They pointed out that Thompson Creek installs replacement windows and doors, gutters and vinyl siding.

Maryland replacement window manufacturer earns award in recognition of their emphasis on customer service in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC

Thompson Creek Windows, based in Lanham, Maryland, received the 2011 Remodeling Service Excellence Award. The program winners were announced at the Back on Track Executive Conference in San Antonio, Texas, on February 11, 2011.

The Remodeling Service Excellence Award was created in partnership with GuildQuality, a customer service research company. This award recognizes companies that deliver a consistently exceptional customer experience, as corroborated by interviews with dozens of their past clients. As noted by Geoff Graham, GuildQuality’s president, "Not only does exemplary service improve the lives of the customers who experience it directly, but it solidifies the reputation of the business as one worth referring and one worthy of repeat business."

GuildQuality conducted the surveys, which entailed contacting all nominees’ clients from 2010 via email, mail and telephone surveying. Results were then passed on to the editors at Replacement Contractor magazine, who were responsible for final selection in two categories: revenue greater than $10 million and under $10 million. Winners were selected based on performance across all questions, with particular weight to the response rate and recommendation rate.

All participants averaged a 73% response rate and 93% recommendation rate, with Thompson Creek exceeding these averages by achieving a 79% response rate and 94% recommendation rate.

President Obama paid a visit to replacement window manufacturer Thompson Creek on Friday, January 7, 2011.  Thompson Creek Window Company manufactures vinyl replacement windows in their Landover, MD production facility.  Thompson Creek windows are installed in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia.

During his visit, President Obama commented on the replacement window company’s success.  "It is wonderful to be here at Thompson Creek, and I want to thank Rick for showing me how you manufacture more efficient windows at this factory," the President said in his remarks. "Building this business has been an extraordinary accomplishment for the Wuest family. And it speaks not only to him -- it also speaks to all the employees here today, the hardworking men and women who make this company work. And it speaks to the promise of America. It’s the idea that if you’ve got a dream and you’re willing to work hard, then you can succeed."

Local Manufacturer/Installer Experiences Impressive Growth in a Challenging Economy

Thompson Creek Window Company hosted a visit from President Obama this morning at its manufacturing facility in Landover, Maryland, which was the site of the President’s remarks to the media about the economy, comment on the monthly employment report and make economic personnel announcements. 

Thompson Creek President Rick Wuest said, “It was definitely an honor and a change of pace for us to host the President and the White House Press Corps.  Being selected by the White House as the location for announcements on the economy is exciting for all of our employees, and being showcased as a company that is able to thrive in these challenging conditions is validation of our hard work that has created a lot of jobs and kept us on a strong growth path.”

Having received numerous industry awards, including being named 2010 Replacement Contractor of the Year by Replacement Contractor magazine and a 2008 Torch Award winner for Marketplace Ethics from the Better Business Bureau, Thompson Creek has achieved double-digit growth over the past 10 years, including revenue growth of more than 50 percent last year.

While many similar companies are struggling, the reason for this impressive growth, according to Wuest, can be attributed to multiple factors.  He said, “In addition to manufacturing and installing the best product on the market today, along with talented sales, marketing and support departments being able to proactively adapt to change has been instrumental in our growth.”  This includes changes in technology, manufacturing practices, sales methodology, customer service and employee recognition programs.  Another factor that has contributed to their growth was the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).  The Act offered tax credits for homeowners who upgrade their home’s windows and doors to more energy-efficient products.  Thompson Creek was able to benefit from the homeowner tax credits, which contributed to the sales growth they experienced. 

As a result of this growth, Thompson Creek has continued to hire new employees over the last few years.  The number of employees doubled from 2008 to 2010, and by the end of 2010 they employed a workforce of close to 300, a number that is expected to grow to more than 400 in 2011.

Thompson Creek Window Company has always believed in giving back to the community, participating in causes such as the Susan B. Komen Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.  For the upcoming holiday season, Thompson Creek decided to collect toys to be delivered to children being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. 

Beginning in November, Thompson Creek began collecting toys. For over a month, employees purchased toys that were on the wish list, which were collected in large wrapped boxes throughout their corporate office and factory in Landover, MD.  Several employees and departments also made monetary donations.  In addition to the numerous large boxes that employees filled with toys, over $1,100.00 was donated and used to purchase additional gifts.

On Friday, December 17, Shelly Bauer and warehouse workers filled a Thompson Creek truck full of toys, which they personally delivered to John Hopkins Hospital.  The generosity of Thompson Creek employees embodies the true spirit of the season!

Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure.  Being held Sunday, October 3, 2010, in Hunt Valley, MD, the Foundation raises funds to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
