Summer is practically here. Warm air plus humidity usually means thunderstorms in the mid-Atlantic area. While Mother Nature frequently gives us spectacular light shows during these storms, she can also pack a powerful punch. Besides lightning, the dangers of thunderstorms also include tornadoes, strong winds, hail and flash floods.

We are continually being reminded to live a greener lifestyle. But where to start? There are a lot of myths out there about living green.
Myth #1 - I can’t make my car greener unless I trade it in for a hybrid.
FALSE. You can do many things to make the car you have now more efficient.

We all know that recycling makes sense – it saves energy, resources and the environment. While not mandatory in most cities and counties, most of us have been in the recycling habit long enough that it’s almost second nature.
Children continue to learn about the importance of recycling at school. In our home, we have a cabinet with two waste receptacles - one for trash and the other for recyclable materials. Kids are more often than not the ones to remind, “That shampoo bottle can go in recycling.” You can even recycle things like aluminum foil, plastic flower pots, and shrink wrap.

Now that 2011 has come to an end, we’d like to take few moments to review the past year and make some resolutions that we think you might want to borrow for yourself. And don’t worry – this is not a top ten list. It’s not even a top five. We are realistic when it comes to resolutions. We want to make sure we can keep them all. So we kept our list to three. It’s an easy number for you to add to your list.
Delegate. Delegate. Then delegate some more. In business we’re always told to delegate more. We’ve learned over the past year that business is booming and we are busy so it’s time to delegate more. As such we’ve created more service and project management positions, increased and streamlined production, and hired more install crews. This way we can spend time creating better products– and feel confident that the right teams are installing those products in your homes. How does this resolution translate to you? Well – instead of trying to seal up those costly drafts in your old leaky windows and doors–...

The National Weather Service is forecasting continued rising heat and humidity for the mid-Atlantic area through this weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits, with even higher humidity than we normally experience in the Washington DC area. Health officials are doing all they can to ensure area residents stay indoors as much as possible. Officials in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, Fairfax County and Washington DC are opening cooling stations throughout the area at swimming pools, community centers and senior centers, and encouraging residents to use pulic facilities such as libraries to keep cool. The Fairfax County Government has the following suggestions for staying cool during the heat wave: • Drink two to four glasses of cold water every hour. • Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. • Stay indoors in an air-conditioned area. • If you must go outside, go out before noon or at night. • Eat lots of light meals. • Wear light-colored clothing and sunscreen outdoors. • Never leave children or pets unattended in a car.

Today, United States citizens commemorate the adoption of the Declaration from Independence. As you celebrate this tradition of patriotism over the long weekend, we remember the words of John Adams, one of our founding fathers, who said the holiday would be "the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance... It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more." The employees at Thompson Creek Window Company stand with you as proud Americans, celebrating and giving thanks to our forefathers for the freedom and liberties we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.

Memorial Day commemorates men and women who died while in military service to the United States. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.
Everyone here at Thompson Creek Window Company would like to take this opportunity to honor those men and women who have given their lives while ensuring the freedoms of our country, as well as their families. We thank you for the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America!

They stand at attention, their uniforms tell stories of courage and commitment. They are members of the U.S. Military, prepared to risk their lives for our liberty. For that, we are forever grateful. May is National Military Appreciation Month. And there are a lot of people to thank - from those who currently serve the red, white and blue at home and abroad, to our treasured veterans, and the families and organizations who support our military effort. You are all heroes. So Thompson Creen Window Company has partnered with WMAL Radio to honor our military during the month of May. While this is National Military Appreciation Month, this is a local effort designed to recognize our friends and neighbors in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC, whose daily sacrifice cannot and will not go unnoticed. On air, on-line, on-demand and on the streets, you'll meet those who serve and the families who miss them. You’ll see images that help us all to understand what service really means. Please join us in this effort by sending us your stories, words of encouragement, photos and video. Together, we will salute the people who endure the most difficult conditions to ensure that we are free! Take a look around the WMAL special National Military Appreciation Month section at http://www.wmal.com//Article.asp?id=1746661. It’s a life-changing collection of tributes to our military, along with plenty of resource and support information. You’ll come away with a clarity and perspective that you will not soon forget. Yes, you’ll use your eyes to watch the video and read the stories, but it’s your heart that will get a real workout. Thank you from Thompson Creek and WMAL as you help us thank our heroes.

We'd like to take the opportunity on this Thanksgiving Day to voice our appreciation to our customers. Thompson Creek Window Company has grown over the last 30 years because of the relationships we've built. We work hard to exceed our customers' expectations and continually strive for 100% customer satisfaction. We started out manufacturing windows, but based on customer feedback we added doors, siding and gutters, all in an effort to evolve into a company that serves our customers' needs.
So thank you for placing your trust in Thompson Creek!
