Tax Benefits

Thompson Creek windows and doors are energy tax credit-eligible. On Dec. 17th, 2010, the US Government established new guidelines regarding tax credits for energy-efficient products as part of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010. Below you will find a guide that outlines the new tax credit.

Tax CreditThe 2009-2010 Energy Tax Credit, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, expired on December 31, 2010. As of January 1, 2011, the tax incentives revert back to those that were available between 2005-2008. The tax credit for windows is 10% of the purchase price up to $200 while the tax credit for exterior doors is 10% of the purchase price up to $500. Installation costs are not included. Only windows and exterior doors that meet ENERGY STAR® ratings are eligible for the tax credit. All Thompson Creek windows and doors are ENERGY STAR®-rated. Qualifying products must be installed in the consumer’s existing primary residence between January 1 and December 31, 2011.

There is a lifetime limit of $500 ($200 for windows) in total credits a homeowner can claim from January 1 to December 31, 2011. This is not on top of the $1,500 limit in 2009-2010. If you have claimed less than $500, you are eligible for the difference up to the $200 cap for windows and $500 for exterior doors. If you reached or exceeded the $500 after January 1, 2006, you are no longer eligible for tax credits for qualifying products. This includes windows, doors, skylights, HVAC, insulation, roofing, etc.
